I have lived in Pasadena for the past 18 years of my life; meaning since I was born. Pasadena is a very nice city (at times I like to refer to it as a town because it sometimes has that small town feeling to it). After growing up in this “town”, I have realized that Pasadena has truly had an influenced on who I am today. At the same time, its not only the city itself that has affected me but the other Pasadenians. In Pasadena we have all kinds of people; different races, different styles, different cultures but at times social class seems to be a major category that keeps them separated. In Pasadena I have learned to value who I am and that there honestly is no need to pretend to be someone else or from some different neighborhood (in Pasadena). I am a lower middle class young mexican artist of the city of Pasadena and I am no longer going to be afraid to show it. Not even in classy, upper class, modern and sometimes boring Pasadena. But in the end, I will always want to come back to my little corner of my little town.
Abortion is a choice.
Posted in Uncategorized on March 25, 2008 by nalanimeloI have just read a blog talking about Alberto’s Gonzales’ Federal Abortion Ban Legacy. I found this piece very interesting and shocking, because of the fact that Gonzales’ backed down on his words. He said that he was for young women’s right to have the option of abortion and not having to inform their parents, but then he goes around and denies“judicial bypass to eight out of the ten teens who came before him seeking an abortion without parental permission.” I personally feel that the choice of having a child should only be determined by the one who is going to have the child. I also believe that young girls who get pregnant should have the choice to have an abortion without having to tell her parents; which at times could make issues or situations at home more tense. What happens to someone is that persons personal and private business and whatever way they choose to deal with the issues is also their own business. NO one not even the government should take away the freedom of that choice the person can make. Freedom is what this country is suppose to be based on, correct? Then give young women or in that case every woman the choice to have an abortion or not. It is their body not the government’s.
Obama Race Speech

At this moment I still do not know where I politically stand but one thing I am sure of is that I agreed with Obama’s race speech. His words are the words that I wished people were more courageous to speak out. Race has always been an issue in this country and probably always will; but the fact that someone is willing to acknowledge it and speak out about it is not something that this country has seen much of. I am very impressed with how Obama was willing to speak about who he really is and about his life experiences, as well as how these experiences make him different from all the other candidates. To be continued…
